A promotional poster is a physical method of promoting a product through different colours, images, styles and shapes that relate to the thing being advertised. Their purpose is to quickly draw attention and efficiently convey the information necessary to the reader. When people see the poster, they need to be able to tell from looking at it what type of product is being sold to them, whether it be through emotional or conventional provocation. Sometimes though, the poster may convey what the creator intends it to in order for the audience to believe they have an idea of what the product is but be surprised by what tone it actually conveys instead.
Promotional posters are typically portrait and vary in size. However most posters are quite large because the more noticeable they are, the better. It is also worth taking into account the amount of information on a poster, if it is quite a simple one, like Frank Verlizzo's posters, the size may not matter so much but the way it is rendered will because the edges must be smooth. However, if you are creating a poster similar to any that Kyle Lambert has created, it is necessary to make the poster a reasonably large size because there are many individual elements that may not be visible on a smaller scale.
It is important for promotional posters to contain information such as times, dates, locations, prices, a title and an "author".It is usually best for promotional posters to have a clear, uncluttered design, a logical order and, as previously mentioned, graphical elements (whether that be typography or images) that relate to the actual product itself.
